Who is my county or AHJ for solar permitting?

Solar panel installations need to be permitted with your local authority or county AHJ, which means "Authority Having Jurisdiction." You can use the following website to find your AHJ: https://ahjregistry.sunspec.org/#/ahj-search

Solar panel installations need to be permitted with your local authority or county called AHJ, Authority Having Jurisdiction. It's not always easy to know which is your jurisdiction as some have very similar names. For example, if you live in Fairfax, Virginia you could report to Fairfax County or Fairfax City. If your property is in Baltimore, Maryland, you could report to Baltimore County or Baltimore City.

Your solar installer should have the tools to know who your local AHJ is to start your permit application for your solar panel installation, but if you're curious, you can use the following tool to find out who you report to. You can search based on your address.
